CityWall
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 June 2026
CityWall sets a street-map of the place you're in as your phone wallpaper. This policy explains what data the app uses and why.
What we process
- Approximate location. With your permission, CityWall uses your device's
coarse (approximate) location to work out which town or city to map. To draw the
map, the approximate coordinates of the area being mapped are sent to our server
(
citywall.dmcc.io), which renders the map and returns it. You can avoid using device location entirely by choosing a location manually in the app. - Map data. Maps are generated from OpenStreetMap data. To fetch the roads and
water for the area, those coordinates are queried against an OpenStreetMap Overpass
service — our own instance, or the public
overpass-api.defor areas our instance doesn't cover. - Anonymous explorer ID. The app generates a random ID stored on your device. It is not linked to your name, account, email, advertising ID, or device hardware ID.
- Pathfinder (optional, off by default). If you join the Pathfinder leaderboard, the cities you claim (city name, approximate coordinates, a timestamp) and your explorer ID are sent to and stored on our server to show the leaderboard. If you don't join, no claim data is ever sent.
What we don't do
- No accounts, names, emails or phone numbers.
- No advertising, no ad identifiers, no third-party analytics or trackers.
- We never sell your data.
Sharing
Data is processed by our own server. To render maps, area coordinates may be sent to OpenStreetMap's Overpass API. We do not share data with advertisers or data brokers.
Retention
Rendered maps are cached on our server by location to speed up future requests. Pathfinder claims are kept while you take part.
Security
All network requests use HTTPS.
Your choices & deletion
- Use a manual location to avoid sending your device location.
- Leave Pathfinder any time in Settings.
- Delete your Pathfinder data in the app (Pathfinder → Delete my data).
Children
CityWall is not directed at children under 13.
Contact & data requests
You can delete your Pathfinder data yourself at any time in the app (Pathfinder → Delete my data). For any other privacy question or request, please get in touch through CityWall's Google Play listing.
